I've taken pictures of the "No Guns" rule.
I've read the quotes from the Mall people about "No Guns."
Therefore, THIS must be made up and total BS.
OMAHA, Neb. -- A burglary at Westroads Mall Monday morning left a security guard handcuffed and three burglars without any cash, according to Omaha police.
The mall security officer told police three men were trying to break into the food court ATM at 4 a.m.
The men displayed a firearm and handcuffed the officer.
The men were unable to access the ATM cash and left on foot.

If there's any way to avoid patronizing businesses and malls that don't allow CCW, I pass them by. If I have to mail order, I try to find a reputable online place that doesn't have a retail presence in Nebraska, for the obvious reason.
I still haven't seen a sign there. I usually enter at the Von Maur entrance or the Dicks Sporting Goods entrance. Nothing that legally tells me they don't allow ccw, as the law states.
They don't have the NSP-recommended sign. It's in the fine print, as Joe linked in his post.
I detest going to malls anyway. Now I have a good reason not to.
Right, I saw his pictures, but those are only at what 1 of the 10-12 entrances?
Here's the deal I can't be held responsible to go around to every entrance of a huge mall just to be sure.
Several people said after the Omaha shooting that there were signs at the Von Maur entrance, I never saw them and don't think they were posted there and I know there are no signs there now.
I don't believe that Westroads meets the following requirement with their 1 sign at 1 of several entrances, in 12pt font etc..
018.03A person, entity, or employer in control of a place or premises described in
Section 018.01O above, which is open to the public, may prohibit permit
holders from carrying concealed handguns in the place or premises by posting
a conspicuous notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited in or on
the place or premises or by making a request, directly or through an
authorized representative or management personnel, that the permit holder
remove the concealed handgun from the place or premises.
Scott;
You are likely right... but there's not a precedent setting case yet and my wallet doesn't want to be the first. According to interviews mall officials have given, they believe it's adequate and likely would push for prosecution.
Besides, Anon has it right. Screw the bastaches. If they don't trust me, then they don't trust my money. After all, maybe I got it by selling a *GASP* gun.
As long as they attempt to ban guns, I will attempt to mock them at every turn.
I've no desire to be a test case and risk an arrest just so I can pay a lawyer to argue sign law. My wallet isn't that fat. I think Paul Horvick estimated the cost at around $500,000 if it goes all the way to the USSC.
Those test cases are best handled by well-funded legal entities (engineer a violation, welcome the arrest, then fight it like the dickens using your own highly-motivated foundation's salaried lawyers).
I think the point scott said was that how can anyone (the ccw) know about the rules if there aren't signs at every door.
I've been to the mall several times (carrying) and have don't know where this sign is located and have never seen it. More people go into the mall through the other doors than the one door with an 8x10 sign INSIDE the mall that shares space with 15 other rules.
My guess is more people have seen the rules on this blog than at the mall itself...
The sign clearly doesn't meet the bare minimum standards of "comspicuous" written into the law.
I'd like to see a cop willing to cite someone, as well as a DA willing to prosecute it. My guess is a warning followed by new signs put up in the following days.
I really don't see a need for this going to the US Supreme Court.
I'm with anon. Don't go where you aren't welcome. Don't patronize places whose ill-advised policies put you at risk.
An acquaintance of mine was wounded when he and his associates were trying to 'disarm' themselves in a car before going inside a no-firearms place. Four cats in a car trying to get their pistols out of their concealment holsters while trying not to attract attention in a parking lot is a recipe for an accidental discharge. A good friend's brother got shot in the back in just such a situation. He was an FBI agent.
Another gent I knew, a town cop, channeled his own butt cheek trying to get his pistol out of his service holster while sitting in a car. It isn't safe, but what is the alternative?
If you get out of the car to disarm and some crook sees you placing your weapon in the trunk or elsewhere, the risk of a break-in while you are away or getting 'jacked when you return to the car is increased.
Don't let someone with a sign turn you into a victim.
Joe I figured this would be a perfect video to go with your blog this time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7pGt_O1uM8 It is more than worth the watch, plus it shows how well "gun free zones" really should work. LOL
