Hastings collegians protest gun ban

Good on you fellow academians, good on you:

Group protests ban of guns on campus

By The Associated Press

HASTINGS — Hastings College students are among those making a statement about their right to bear arms — and they say that includes on college campuses.

Three Hastings College students wore empty holsters to class on Monday in an attempt to get lawmakers to allow concealed guns on campus.

The three are members of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. The movement began following the Virginia Tech shooting a year ago that left 33 people dead.

They do not think concealed weapons should be banned on college campuses.

Hastings College group leader Jamie Brisbin says the protest was intended to show fellow students that they are defenseless against an attack.

Nebraska is one of 29 states that prohibits concealed weapons on college campuses.

Ashford was the creep that snuck this campus (and hospital) ban into a bill with a totally different original purpose, an escrow law bill (LB97). He just gutted the bill, and amended it into a gun ban bill with an inaccurate title.

Senator Tony Fulton said Ashford did this right when Fulton had just been appointed by the Gov to replace Foley, and Fulton was the only one to argue against it. Apparently, the fix was already in, and the rest of the legislature had already done a wink and nod deal to let this pass undebated, in exchange for Ashford letting the CCW law proceed to a vote.

Fulton didn't know about this dirty deal, having just got there, and was wondering why no one else would oppose it in floor debate, not even the other supposedly "pro-gun" members.
