I don't mind a permit it was faster then waiting around for the NiCS.how about if you have a ccw permit that would take placed of the handgun permit & the NICS
Hello, has anyone been reading this blog? KILL THIS BILL.
Kill the bill.
The permit is not necessarily a good thing, but it is better than NICS.
The permit has it's flaws, but it is better than NCIS. It also offers some protections for those not an FFA selling a single firearm privately to have some assurance of the legitamacy of their purchaser. Sec one is not toothless, it is part of the crime commissions charter to offer specific legeslation, a bad study would still bring forth bad bills that because the report spured them would be passed into laws. This needs to die NOW.
Given the largely unknown political leanings of the "crime" commission, I'd say KILL IT!
To all too many people, the blame will always lie with the gun. They simply can't see the real weapon. (HINT: it lies between the ears!)
Strip the "crime" commission lingo and add reciprocity and pre-emption, then maybe we'll talk.
Kill it.
Kill the bill. Keep the permit, it's better than NCIS and makes it safer for a private person (not an FFL holder) to sell a firearm. With out it the wolves will force all sales though a dealer.
The NRA does not speak for me on this issue, just as it has not on other issues in the past. This bill should already be dead. Not only is getting rid of the purchase permit not worth compromising for, it is actually better than the NICS in my opnion. I agree with my husband and the others who have posted here, kill this bill!
kill the bill.
Kill the bill.
I posted this over at Sebastian's:
The thing to keep in mind is that the Nebraska Legislature is a UNICAMERAL . There is only one body, a "senate" apportioned based on population, the only one of its kind- even Maine realized it was a BAD THING. Also, these people are only in session a very short time. Things happen very fast, if at all. Note the sneaky underhanded way CCW got banned from Universities last fall.....this Gun Crime Commission would be a de-facto anti-gun platform that would generate legislation EVERY two years. It would not be subject to term limits as the Antis on the Judiciary Committee ARE. We couldn't even vote them out of office if they pissed us off, as they are POLITICAL APPOINTEES! If we get an anti for a Governor (We've had Democrats as Governor, Ashford is a Republican, hell it COULD happen!) then you would have an assault weapons bill, sure as shootin'. Can you see DiAnna Schimek appointed as "concerned citizen"..... she'll need SOMETHING to do after she terms out....
Dude... Schimek or Chambers.
That's too scary to comprehend.
(Well, maybe not Chambers. He'd tie the commission into a Gaelic Knot!)
Kill the bill. Keep the Permit. Sure as hell it will be back to haunt us.
Kill this bill and anything resembling it. I can tolerate the purchase permit, not a background check at the government's whim. Kill this socialist bill! I could use words like pinko commie in reference to certain senators from Omaha, but I won't. :-) This is opportunistic legislation that infringes on the rights of good citizens and does nothing to prevent crime. I do not agree with the NRA on this. I am unwilling to compromise. Thank you to my representative for voting with the people as he should.
20-county:
"Thank you to my representative for voting with the people as he should."
Be sure to him that. Thanks are as important as pressure.
Kill LB 958!!! Better yet, amend the bill to delete everything there and to fix all of the CCW problems. Vermont style concealed carry.
The NRA does not obviously represent its membership, and it surely does not represent all law abiding firearms owners such as myself.

Kill the bill. Anything from the Anti's is bound to come back to bite us. There is no way that Ashford is presenting this thing if there isn't something in it for him and/or his agenda.
Problem is, 20-County, is that (assuming that you are from 20 County, in Nebraska) is that your Senator, Dave Pankonin(Dist. 2, Louisville) Did Not Vote Yesterday, according to Joe's tally, anyway. He said he did not support the bill, but was not present to vote! Keep tabs on 'em!

Kill the bill. The purchase permit works the way it is. NICS check is a pain in the ass at gun shows. I like to see a pistol permit when I do a private sale.
Kill the bill. All of these amendments are rediculous. I agree let a CCW holder use that in-lieu of a purchase permit and focus on pre-emption and repriocity. That would be useful legislation.
Kill The Bill!
I'll keep the permit. Seriously, they already have all of us law abiding gun owners information and we would not be getting anything back...are they going to remove my information they already have?
The permit is a minor inconvenience every few years. I'd rather renew my permit to purchase every three years than have LB958 pass.

KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Amend the sucker to death with preemption, reciprocity and lieftime CCW permits or even Vermont style carry provisions.
If Ernie can load a bill up with his crap, then why can't we do the same?

March 13,
Cuz.......... they are skeerda Ernie, an ain't skeerda us?
This bill has been in and out of the paint shop too many times and it's still ugly. Kill it.
A CCW permit should serve as a purchase permit as it does successfully in many other states.
Yes, the purchase permit is flawed, but still much better than NICS. LB958 is garbage in any form!
Kill the Bill!!
YES!! KEEP THE PERMIT!! KILL THE BILL!!
There seems to be some perception that we need to convince the NRA they should oppose LB958 on the theory that only NRA opposition will convince certain senators to vote against it. Can anyone confirm or deny?
KILL THE BILL!!!
Kill the bill. What generally happens with these groups is it gets changed and only anti gun people get on it and then the law changes and their recommendations become law. Next thing you know all anti gun leglislation happens and you become a no gun state.
Kill the bill and try again next year for getting rid of permits.
As a new handgun owner and soon to be CCW holder, I can tolerate the permit.
Let's stop this bill
keep the permit. kill the bill.
not even close.
Kill Bill volume 1
Keep the permit.
Kill This Shiny Slippery Bill!
No New Gun Law
I do not mind the Hand Gun Purchase Permit. CCW permit should be adequate as a resource for purchase.
Our infamous Unicameral Legislators are too polished and practiced at slipping it in the rear end. With the true meaning of the bill and it's amendments biting people in the rear sometime latter.
Kill the bill. I am very happy with the handgun purchase card. Using the CCW permit would be a better thing.
KILL THE BILL!!!
I can live with my purchase permit, this bill spells nothing but trouble for us. Add recipoicty, get rid of the city/county rules and let us exercise our rights!
I don't have a problem with the permit. Gives private sales some security too.
Mike
keep the permit, kill the bill
The purchase permit is a convenience for me. LB 958 is wrong on so many levels... including the sneaky, underhanded way it was brought to the floor.
It is also inappropriate for APPOINTEES to be making "suggestions."
NICS and similar "instant checks" are terrible systems; look at what happened in Pennsylvania in late 2007 when their system went down for maintenance.
Kill it. The process is painful enough when I buy a gun in Omaha.
Kill the bill.
KILL IT DEAD!!
I emailed the NRA this afternoon and voiced my displeasure with their stand on LB958. The "neutral" position is my opinion a vote for this bill and you can bet Ashford is crowing about how he "backed down" the NRA. We have not seen the last of attacks on Nebraska gun owners folks and thanks to the NRA the anti's just got a lttle more traction.
I've transfered a couple of guns but would only do so with a permit. I don't believe NICS can be trusted to be available nor accurate. Let's see if any of out elected 'leaders' actually read this - enact nationwide reciprocity, preemption so haters of law abiding citizen cities like Kearney and Omaha can't enact ordinances we can't possibly keep legal and gun free zone laws if a private party decides to post. KEEP THE PERMIT AND KILL THE BILL!!!
I will concur with the others, kill the bill or get preemption, etc. amended on to it.
