Police identify rifle in drive-thru shooting

From KETV.com

(Douglas County Attorney Don) Kleine said Bormann used something like a Winchester model 670a with a .243 cartridge. Considered a pure sportsman's rifle by some, it is a bolt-operated rifle that takes some time to reload.

I don't know about the reload time... British troops used to work the bolt on their short magazine Lee-Enfields so fast opposing troops thought they were facing full auto.

At least they were nice enough call it a "sportsman's rifle" as opposed to "sniper-type rifle."

I'm sure to catch hell for this, but I'm not totally sold on .243 as a high-power, either. I sits between the .223 (varmint round) and the .30 calibers (which I consider high-power). I guess it's appropriate for deer, so it's a high-power.

I don't think a .243 would be legal for deer in some states. Maybe it makes a good coyote rifle. I actually heard an announcer on one of the Omaha TV news shows call it an "assault rifle", but that was early on. You know how it goes.

If you use the right ammo, it will blow an exit wound in a pig you can stick a fist into. That's plenty for the deer around here.
