Update on Colorado Springs shooting

Slap me twice and call me Charlie....

CNN, of all organizations, actually explains that the woman with a concealed handgun was not a cop, nor a security guard. Instead, she was a volunteer from the churchgoers who had a CCW and her own personal firearms.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado Springs megachurch instituted security precautions after a shooting at a Denver area mission center earlier Sunday, saving "hundreds of lives" at the New Life Church, senior Pastor Brady Boyd said Monday.

A New Life parishioner acting as a security guard shot and killed a gunman who entered the church Sunday afternoon after he had gotten no more than 50 feet inside the building, Boyd said.

A source knowledgeable with events at the church identified the gunman as Matthew Murray, 23.
Two teens, identified by police as Rachael Works, 16, and Stephanie Works, 18, were killed in what Boyd called "a senseless, random attack."
Boyd said the teens were sisters and were shot in the parking lot. Police said their father David Works, 51, was also shot and is hospitalized in fair condition with two gunshot wounds.

Boyd said the female security guard was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to confront the gunman just inside the church. "
She probably saved over a hundred lives," Boyd said of the guard, whom he said is not a law enforcement officer and used her personal weapon.

Good thing it wasn't Nebraska... Even if the church officials were this progressive and forward thinking enough, STATE LAW SAYS THEY CAN'T DO IT!!!!!!

Don't jump to too many conclusions about Colorado and the attitude towards firearms here. If you reacall we have had some significant gun violence in the past and I live in an extremely liberal area. (i.e. the whole front range) I am in no way trying to discredit your opinions however, be careful in making comparisons to which you have no frame of reference.

Homes, I have no misconception about the granola people who control the legislature in that state.

All I'm saying, bro, is that the law, as written now, doesn't specifically bar concealed guns from church.

In fact, if this is the Jay I think it is, I would remind you that the sheriff in Fort Collins has affirmed that there is no law against taking your concealed firearm (with permit, natch) to class at Colorado State.

Now, as for those nuthatches in Boulder.... And Denver with it's ridiculous "assault weapons" ban... Oy vey.

The sane parts of Colorado ignore Denver anyway.

This statement is not true…. the church you attend can give you permission to carry your fire arm at that church or on church property. The Nebraska CWP is not valid unless you have the property owner’s permission like the aka the “volunteer” security guard had.

I am speaking from my experiences in Denver. Fort Collins as you very well know has a sheriff who is completely on our side. In fact, the city council decided to ban multi-colored christmas lights because it "may offend people". White lights only. So, said sheriff, decided that he would put up a tree and invite everyone to decorate it with whatever colored lights, ornaments, etc.. they wanted, and he would help. Good fella.

They banned colored lights?

I... I... Speechless, which as you know old friend, doesn't happen often.

I feel bad for guys like Michael Bane, a professional gun writer/broadcaster who lives just outside... Boulder.

Talk about a Christian in the Lion's Den.

The "evil that men do" includes refusing to admit that armed citizens are the best defense. When an attack is over in a few minutes, as it was in Von Maur, the police become historians, not protectors of the weak. I think the sheep are so afraid of guns that they don't realize a TOOL, such as a gun, that can be mis-used for evil, can also be used to oppose evil. An example of a CCW (tool) holder opposing evil is the recent defensive gun use in Colorado. MSNBC put this one part of the story under their "Health" section (?), which says a lot about their editorial decisions. In short: at the New Life Church, a man who stood ready to defend others with his life, tried to borrow a gun from a male security guard (all volunteers). When that security guard refused (would you loan your gun to a stranger during a gunfight?), this citizen yelled to get the gremlin's attention, then gets shot at and slightly wounded by the gremlin. The citizen also gives a first-hand account of the shootout with the gremlin by the female security guard. This story, as you know already, shows the utility of guns in civilian hands. Maybe other people will see that and take up tools of defense, for themselves and their families... It can happen if we keep pointing to examples like this:
